The other day I went to see the movie “Expelled: No Intelligence Required” at a local theater. The movie features Ben Stein as he investigates why debate is suppressed to the point where scientists are fired for questioning Darwinism or secular abiogenesis. They include biology professor Caroline Crocker (fired from George Mason University), evolutionary biologist Richard Sternberg (fired from the Smithsonian), and astrophysicist Guillermo Gonzalez (blackballed at Iowa State).
Mr. Stein interviews some of the most noteworthy opponents of Intelligent Design and merely lets them talk. Their hatred of religion was all but obvious. At one point Mr. Stein gave a summary of what Richard Dawkins said about God from one of his books. Richard Dawkins protests that the summarized definition was too mild – therefore he read the quote straight from his book. He sounds like a minister preaching against satan himself – instead he is talking about God!
Ben Stein then asks the question – then how was life begun. Dawkins had to say he did not know – that no one knows. In fact today’s science can not duplicate the creation of life, from non-life. One of those Mr. Stein interviewed spoke of lighting striking mud and starting organic life. Another speaks of crystials forming on backs of crystals as a possible start of life. Lastly Richard Dawkins allows for the possibity of aliens bring life to this planet. Clearly any possibity was allowable as long as it wasn’t God.
The movie was surprising and it did sucessfully shined the spotlight of true at the intolerance of academia. While it was not a Christian movie (Ben Stein is Jewish) – it is still very helpful for Christians as they also seek to shine light on the anti-God segments of the sciencific community. I highly recommend that you see the movie for yourself.
