  • Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp

    terrorist

As you know Senator Obama, has promised to close Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp, once president - which has been applauded by many people.  But the details of how he’s going to do this he has not shared.   For example what to do with the detainees that are there.  From all reports I have heard most of these men which stay at this prison are hardened enemies of the United States.  Also of those which have been released quite a number returned to the fight against the United States.  For example, back in May 2008 a previous detainee of Guantánamo blew himself up killing four civilians and two police officers.

Will Senator Obama have them tried in U.S. courts – at tax payers expense?  Will he continue to use tribunals?    We don’t know.   If you can’t hold them – do you hand them over to the governments of Afghanistan or Iraq (if they even want them) – which very well will lock them up, under far worse conditions?    Many questions – no clarity on the issue from Obama.

Also Senator Obama has mentioned the end of “torture.”  The word ‘torture’ has been one of the most politically tortured words in the last four years.  What does the word mean to Obama?  Does it include water boarding, loud music, sleep depravation and tough questionings techniques?   My definition of the word ‘torture’ is to cause extreme pain upon an individual – for the purpose of extracting information from an individual. Therefore using a pliers to remove ones fingernails or beatings are torture.  On the other hand water boarding – (which was done to me by my older brother when I was a kid)  is not torture.   It creates panic – not extreme pain.   Sleep depravation or playing annoying music also is not extreme pain.  So how does Senator Obama define torture – does anyone know?

I wait in great anticipation for the answers to these questions.
