  • Walking Back In Time

    Elizabeth wanted to take a walk this morning - so I brought her to where I grew up in Whippany.    We walked around Bee Meadow Pond and I showed her where my brothers James, Pat, Kevin and myself would go skating.  I remember I had a old pair of ice skates (hand me downs) that I used.  Anyway had some good fun at the pond!

  • Home Base of Baseball

    I work in Jersey City so I figure that I would check to see local sights in the area - during my lunch hour.   I was surprised to learn that the first game of baseball was played in Hoboken NJ – which is a short walk from Jersey City (As Mary Kate says; ‘it’s a good stretch of the legs’).    The field that it was played has long been gone – but a marker is there commenmorating the spot at 11th and Washington streets.   Here’s a couple pics I took with my camera phone.

    It says “On June 19, 1846 the first match game of baseball was played here on the Elysian Fields between the Knickerbockers and the New Yorkers.”

    As you can see from the weight chart (on the bottom) I’ve lost a total of 13.2 lbs in 2008!    I am merely watching my snacks and drink by choosing healthy alternatives. 

    You can see from the chart directly below, my walking/running has increased (note: 100% is 12,000 steps or 5.2 miles).   My goal is to get Friday and Saturday up to 100% this week.   

    This week I also started lifting light weights on alternating days – I hope to continue with this and to add additional weight in the upcoming days.

  • Hello – Starting January 1st I started a new diet and exercise regiment.  I’m hoping to drop 50 lbs in the next 6 months.

                    Turkey Sandwich 250 calories
                    Yogurt 90 calories
                    Banana 100 calories
    Snack:
                   Cereal 250 calories

    Dinner:
                   Mexican Pizza 800 calories
                   Salad w/dressing 150 calories

    Total Distance Walked:  5.2 miles = Calories Burnt 632

    Here is what my activity looks like.    My longest period of inactivity is between 1:30 pm and 3 pm when I am at work.    Where I can make the best improvement is by going faster (the top speed while walking is 3.5 mph).   Can do better.    – Brian
