  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Week 5 (11 wks to go)

While not reaching my goals – I am well pleased anyway.   Weighing in at 211 lbs – I have lose a total of 10 pounds over the last 5 weeks.
As for my time this week – I did not come close to my goal – however it was the fastest 1/2 marathon distance, I’ve done so far – by 10 seconds.

  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Week 4 (12 wks to go)

I decided to make my schedule a bit more realistic.  My weight goals were not doable, at 5 lbs a week – so I changed this to 2.5 lbs per week.

I also changed the color codes whereby yellow means it’s passed the prior week’s goal, red means it did not, and green means, the same – that I made the present week’s goal.

Next week – my long run is almost the distance of a half-marathon where I hope to do it in 1 hour and 57 minutes.  If successful – it would be the first time I’ve done that distance in less than 2 hours.

    Saturday’s running stats:

    Weather: 29 degrees, and sunny

  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Week 3 (13 wks to go)

Been a good week training – reached my speed goal and very happy with this.  Been reading Ryan Hall’s book ‘Running with Joy’ during this week and finding his suggestions helpful.  1) Not aiming for self-glory, but God’s glory in running.  2) keep easy runs easy, and long runs hard.

Felt the runner’s high today around 2 miles – just a feeling of euphoria that puts a smile on my face as I run.

With the ‘holidays’ – keeping to my diet is going to be a problem.

  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Week 2 (14 wks to go)

Completed week two, and there is good news and bad news.

The bad news is I only lose a 1/2 pound this week.   This is very upsetting, and doesn’t make sense to me.  Kept away from sweets, snacks, beer and watch my portion sizes – but to no avail.   Also I ran 17 miles is by itself is 1,700 calories – which is more then a half pound by itself.  Any way I reset my goal for next week – and will redouble my efforts to make it happen.

The good news – is that I improved my adverage speed from 9:58 to 9:33 per mile.   This is so close to my goal of 9:30 per mile – I will press on next week to 9:15 per mile.

  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Summary

    Hi,

Unlike last year – I thought it would be easier to post a summary for my training schedule for 2012 National Marathon.

If I successfully meet all my weekly goals, I believe I would be in line to qualify for the Boston Marathon (the oldest annual marathon in the entire world). At my age – I would have to do the Marathon in 3 hours, and 30 minutes.  My training goal is set very high – but that is my way of aiming for the fence (a home-run) - but will be OK with less.

For the blog I am logging the weekly miles, my end of week weight, and the average weekly speed, per mile.  Green of course means I met the goal and red means I did not.

I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart. Psalms 119:32
