  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Week 2 (14 wks to go)

Completed week two, and there is good news and bad news.

The bad news is I only lose a 1/2 pound this week.   This is very upsetting, and doesn’t make sense to me.  Kept away from sweets, snacks, beer and watch my portion sizes – but to no avail.   Also I ran 17 miles is by itself is 1,700 calories – which is more then a half pound by itself.  Any way I reset my goal for next week – and will redouble my efforts to make it happen.

The good news – is that I improved my adverage speed from 9:58 to 9:33 per mile.   This is so close to my goal of 9:30 per mile – I will press on next week to 9:15 per mile.

  • 2012 DC Marathon – Training Summary

    Hi,

Unlike last year – I thought it would be easier to post a summary for my training schedule for 2012 National Marathon.

If I successfully meet all my weekly goals, I believe I would be in line to qualify for the Boston Marathon (the oldest annual marathon in the entire world). At my age – I would have to do the Marathon in 3 hours, and 30 minutes.  My training goal is set very high – but that is my way of aiming for the fence (a home-run) - but will be OK with less.

For the blog I am logging the weekly miles, my end of week weight, and the average weekly speed, per mile.  Green of course means I met the goal and red means I did not.

I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart. Psalms 119:32

  • March 16, 2012 National Marathon in D.C.

Only 15 weeks to train  – already setting up my training schedule which, Lord willing starts today.  I’ve been doing short 2-3 mile runs on Saturdays – and I have been missing the feeling of doing those long runs.   Can’t wait to begin!!

Schedule to be posted later today.

More pics from my home town…

  • Hurricane Irene

While my home was basically untouched by the Hurricane (Thank God) – my local area is in terrible shape with flooding and uprooted trees.  Here are some pics (all these pics were taken within 500 yards of my house):

This is the center of our town (route 53).  I’m standing under route 80 and that bridge in front of me is route 46.

This street (which is on Indian lake) is under water.

  • longest run in preparation for my upcoming 1/2 marathon

Today I did my longest training run (12 miles) in preparation for my upcoming 1/2 marathon.  Two weeks and (Lord willing) the race!  Getting a little excited.

My run today was a personal record for the distance ran – so I hope, that means that I will be setting a new personal best at this race.

     Psalm 8:1
O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

  • Amish Bird in the Hand 1/2 marathon: 3wks 2 go

I just registered for the Amish Bird in the Hand 1/2 marathon which is held on Setember 9-10th in Lancaster County, PA.

Update: Training is been going well – I had to make some adjustments for family vacation (Virginia and NJ Shore) - but feel I did not lose any ground.  My last two long runs have been my fastest times at those distances (also done in the rain)  - so that makes me believe – I’ll set a personal best when I do the 1/2 marathon.

Next:  Lord willing, I’ll do 11 miles on Saturday, and 12 miles the next and then I tapper down for the race.  I still need to acquire lodging for my family for Friday night before the race.

Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof (Ecclesiastes 7:8a)

  • I believe God made me for a purpose

In my training I did a personal best for 7 miles – completing the distance in 1 hour and 4 minutes – also I completed a 1/4 mile in 1 minute, 25 seconds, which also is a personal best (in training).   Reminds me a quote which I read in Bethany Hamilton’s book – where she quotes Eric Liddell, quote:

“I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”

Not that I am a fast runner – but I am challenging myself - to improve and to know that God is pleased.

  • Training update (third week)

This week I realized that I should be recording my time.  I need to do this because my goal for training this time is to beat my 2009 half-marathon time of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
